Safety Questions Answered
How does GlobeMentor verify host organizations?
We have a comprehensive 5-step verification process that includes document verification, background checks on leadership, site inspections (where possible), reference checks from previous volunteers, and ongoing monitoring of volunteer feedback. Organizations must meet strict criteria for safety standards, ethical practices, and community impact.
What should I do in case of an emergency?
In case of any emergency, contact our 24/7 emergency hotline immediately. We also recommend registering with your local embassy and keeping their contact information handy. Your host organization should provide you with local emergency contacts and protocols during your orientation.
Is travel insurance required?
Yes, we require all volunteers to have comprehensive travel insurance that covers medical emergencies, evacuation, and trip cancellation. We recommend policies that specifically cover volunteer activities and adventure sports if applicable. We can provide recommendations for suitable insurance providers.
How do I report a safety concern?
You can report safety concerns through multiple channels: our in-app reporting system, email to safety@globementor.com, or our 24/7 emergency line. All reports are treated confidentially and investigated thoroughly. We take all concerns seriously and have a zero-tolerance policy for misconduct.
What health precautions should I take?
We recommend consulting a travel health specialist at least 6-8 weeks before departure. They can advise on vaccinations, malaria prophylaxis if needed, and general health precautions. We also provide destination-specific health guides with information on local health risks and prevention measures.
Need to Report a Concern?
Your safety is our top priority. If you've experienced or witnessed anything concerning, please don't hesitate to reach out. All reports are treated confidentially.
